A series of webinars is being organised jointly by Health Statistics User Group (HSUG) and the RSS  (Royal Statistical Society) Official Statistics Section on topics relating to Covid-19.   The focus of these webinars is on sharing experiences and discussing approaches to the methods being used to produce the statistics for each of the topics in the four nations of the UK.

The first webinar in the series was on Mortality Statistics for Covid-19 and was held on 20 May 2020.

Material relating to the mortality statistics webinar has been placed on the HSUG web pages within StatsUserNet under the entry “Collecting and Reporting Mortality Statistics for Covid-19 Webinar 20th May-Material”.

The content includes

  1. A report on the event
  2. Presentations given at the webinar
  3. Q&A:  Questions submitted by participants at the webinar with immediate responses given during the webinar, together with further information provided subsequently by the presenters.
  4. Additional background information relevant to the webinar topic.

It should be noted that, in order to view this information, participants need to register as users of the StatsUserNet web site www.statsusernet.org.uk and then go to the Health Statistics User Group category within StatsUserNet.

The next webinar in the series will focus on Modelling for Covid-19, and will be held in late July.  Further information about the date, content and how to register for this webinar will be available soon.   If you wish to register an interest in the webinar series you can e-mail webinar@hsug.org.uk and you will be notified when further information is available.

Also, one of the sessions at the Health Studies Users Conference on 30 June, which is organised by UK Data Service, will focus on Covid-19.  The topic of this session is “Covid-19 – opportunities and challenges for the health surveys”.  This interactive session will consider opportunities and challenges for all the cross-sectional health surveys and longitudinal surveys covered in the conference programme. This includes the Opinions & Lifestyle Survey module on COVID-19, plus other surveys which are now asking Covid questions.

In addition to this conference, RSS Official Statistics Section is currently planning a webinar on surveys relating to Covid-19.  This will have an international focus and so will complement what is being covered at the conference on 30 June.  Information about this webinar will be posted on the RSS website Events Page  https://rss.org.uk/training-events/events/.  If you register an interest in the webinar series, you will be notified when further information about this event is available.
